Trev is joined by Liverpool legend Steve McMahon to discuss his career. In part 1 they discuss Steve's journey from becoming a Blue to becoming a Red and the earlier parts of his career. Look at for part 2 when they discuss his later career and moving from the Reds in the Souness days.

In the concluding part of this double episode of The Interview, Trev Downey talks to Ronnie Whelan about the rebuilding of Liverpool in the late 80s under Kenny Dalglish. Ronnie talks about the great side of that era, the similarities between them and the current Liverpool set-up under Jürgen Klopp and has some fantastic stories about the trophies won, and lost, in that era, culminating in the last league title to come to Anfield, in 1990. The conversation continues with a look at how injury impaired his remaining years at the club and the painful and somewhat shabby way in which his days at LFC ended. There’s also a very entertaining discussion about Ronnie’s time in the most successful Ireland sides in history.

In the first part of this double-episode of The Interview, Trev Downey speaks to Ronnie Whelan about his early days as a serial triallist, the influence of his father, the move to Bob Paisley’s Liverpool and those initial Merseyside days of digs and loneliness. Ronnie talks about his very sudden and permanent move into the first team alongside the likes of Kenny Dalglish and Graeme Souness, winning the league at his first attempt and scoring TWICE in the League Cup final victory of that campaign. The chat continues as Trev asks Ronnie to document those remarkably successful early seasons up to The Double-winning campaign of ’85/’86 and including a remarkable European Cup win in Rome in 1984.

In the second part of another double episode of The Interview, David Fairclough talks to Trevor Downey in some depth about the exploits that led to his reputation as a Supersub and the resulting burden that reputation brought with it. David is very open about his difficult relationship with Bob Paisley and tells Trev about those transitional days at Melwood when Bill Shankly was still turning up to training on the Geordie's watch. The conversation also touches on the frustration of his last years at Anfield, as he struggled behind Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush, having previously laboured to dislodge Toshack and Keegan and David concludes with his views on the current Liverpool set up.

In this opening part of another double episode of The Interview, David Fairclough tells Trevor Downey about his upbringing in 60s Liverpool and the path that led him to represent his boyhood idols at just 19, on his way to the first of many trophies. David talks about those early days as he went from an apprentice, afraid to go into the first team dressing room for fear of unmerciful teasing, to his development into being a teammate of Emlyn Hughes, Tommy Smith and Kevin Keegan who was carving a very singular reputation as a man who could be relied on to score important goals.

In the second part of this double-episode, Trev Downey speaks to John Wark in depth about his time at Anfield - an era in which Liverpool were still the most successful side in Europe. Wark recalls the highs and lows of his time at the club, from outscoring Ian Rush to missing long stretches through injury. There’s a look back to John’s involvement with the Christmas time movie favourite, Escape To Victory, in which Wark shared a screen with Michael Caine, Sylvester Stallone, Bobby Moore and Pelé, and, to conclude the chat, Trev asks John to run the rule over modern midfielders, Jürgen Klopp, the legendary managers he played for and the progress being made by this current Liverpool side.

Trev Downey’s latest guest on The Interview is the former Scottish international and double league winner, John Wark. An outrageously prolific goalscoring midfielder, Wark was at Liverpool from 1984 to 1988 and in this first instalment of the two-part episode, Trev speaks to John about his early days in Glasgow and his rapid rise through the ranks at Bobby Robson’s incredibly successful Ipswich Town in the late 70s and very early 80s. This incredible form sealed John’s move to Anfield and Trev quizzes him on the mechanics of the transfer, his very peculiar medical and his early days at LFC.

In the second part of this interview with John Aldridge, Trev Downey talks to Aldo about his role in one of the greatest Liverpool sides of all time, his impressive international career with the Republic of Ireland, the harrowing experience of the Hillsborough tragedy and its aftermath, his unpleasant departure from Liverpool after just two successful seasons, his foreign adventure with Real Sociedad and there’s even a story about how the two lads had previously met on a Ryanair flight. Trev also quizzes John on the current Reds set-up and asks him what changes he believes need to be made.

In the opening part of this two-part interview with John Aldridge, Trev Downey talks to Aldo about his early days at Newport and Oxford. Goals were in abundance from the start and John speaks about some of the people who influenced his development and turned him into such an admired poacher that his hometown club signed him with a view to replacing the great Ian Rush. The footballing transition was seamless for John but he is very candid about how there was definitely a rite of passage to endure before he was fully accepted by his new teammates.

In Part 2 of The Interview with Mark Lawrenson, Trev Downey gets some wonderful insight from Mark about his time at Liverpool. It was a period of obscene success for the club as the legendary defender won the league in each of his first three campaigns and was a part of the side that lifted the European Cup in Rome. But Mark’s time as a Redman was blighted by the tragedy of Heysel and he shares his own memories of that hellish occasion as well as the personal tragedy of an injury which cut short his glittering career at the age of just 30, with the Reds on the verge of building another all-conquering side. This is a refreshingly candid and open conversation with one of the greatest footballers of his generation, whose humility belies his legendary status and continuing high profile as a television pundit.
