Skrtel

So it’s that time of the season again, the international break, a week most football fans dread as a combination of no Premier League football and injury worries creep in but alas, we cannot change the fixture list and will have to watch and hope our key players return unscathed. This is also the last […]

Against Arsenal last week we attempted to employ the same system we used so successfully against West Brom: 3 central defenders, with two wing-backs. Clearly it didn’t go well, and it led to a very poor first half performance from Liverpool. This prompted Rodgers to revert to four at the back for the second half, […]

Martin Skrtel has split opinions on Merseyside for years. Ever since his move from Zenit St. Petersburg in January 2008, the Slovak has drifted in and out of the Liverpool back line. He has partnered many players in the Reds’ defence; Soto Kyrgiakos, Sebastien Coates, Jamie Carragher, and most recently, Daniel Agger. Skrtel is quietly […]

Liverpool FC have finally made it to the new Wembley Stadium and how sweet it is. The road to Wembley was a tough one with Away wins over Stoke, Chelsea and Manchester City along the way how fitting it that it came down to the 2nd leg at Anfield to decide whether Liverpool made the […]

As we approach the January transfer window Liverpool will be looking to bring in a few new faces to the club and whether those players are stars or up and comers we will find out. As you look at the team closely you are able to find those areas in which we are in need […]

There has been an ongoing debate for some time now about the impact Jamie Carragher’s lack of pace has on the Liverpool defensive line. There is a theory that Carragher holds the line deep to prevent younger, quicker attackers stealing a march on him on the break. Carragher’s calf injury has inadvertently helped us find out whether this is […]

“We all dream of a team of Carraghers” goes the Kop chant, but exactly how long will it be before we have a team-less Carragher? At the age of 33, Carragher’s best years are behind him, yet he remains a stalwart in the centre of defence. While some may say he has lost his pace, […]

Despite being at the risk of repeating ourselves from the article "Where the game was won" we just wanted to post some match stats from the Fulham Vs Liverpool game. These stats are normally available to our subscribers but we have used them in match reports before so we thought we'd share them even though we've already done our match report in the article mentioned above.
For a number of years now there has been much debate about who exactly makes up our best central defensive partnership. The 3 main players in this debate are the long serving Jamie Carragher, the misunderstood Martin Skrtel and the mostly injured Daniel Agger.
The first instalment of this feature was a success so we are going to make it into a regular feature every time Liverpool win in the Premier League. The latest game was yesterday's win at the Stadium of Light against, a struggling, Sunderland. Immediately after the game a lot of supporters, myself included, put the win down to a bit of lady luck that went our way after half an hour of the first half. On second thoughts I'd like to change my mind and put it down to a mixture of lady luck, which every team requires, and some very good performances in the Liverpool team.
