Liverpool contract talks continue over Rio Ngumoha amid transfer interest
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Liverpool are in discussions with Rio Ngumoha over a new contract, with talks ongoing as the club look to secure the future of one of the most highly regarded young talents in their ranks.
The situation appears clear from Liverpool’s side. Despite recurring noise in the market and continued attention from major clubs, the internal stance has remained firm for some time. Rio Ngumoha is viewed as a player for the future at Anfield, and there has been no willingness to entertain an exit.
However, Romano also acknowledged that Premier League rivals Arsenal would be in the mix for the youngster if he was to look to leave Liverpool.
Rio Ngumoha future remains a priority
There was significant interest during the summer, with Bayern Munich among the clubs linked, while other sides across Europe were also monitoring developments. Liverpool’s message throughout that period was consistent, that the player would not be leaving and was not available for transfer.
That position has not shifted. Instead, the focus has moved towards extending his terms and reinforcing his place in the club’s long-term project. For Liverpool, this is part of a wider strategy around elite youth retention, particularly when players begin attracting attention from domestic and European rivals.
Arsenal interest could remain in background
Arsenal have also been mentioned in connection with Ngumoha and, as with many leading clubs, they are expected to stay alert to any elite market opportunity. The expectation is that if any opening were to emerge in 2027, 2028, or beyond, Arsenal would be one of several sides keeping a close watch on the situation.
For now, though, there is no indication Liverpool are preparing to weaken their position. Quite the opposite, discussions over a new deal suggest they want to strengthen it.
Liverpool transfer strategy around young talent
With Liverpool continuing to plan for the future under Andoni Iraola, locking down premium academy and development talent remains an important part of the club’s wider recruitment and squad-building model. Ngumoha is clearly seen within that category.
As matters stand, Liverpool are talking contract, not transfer. That distinction is the key point, and one that underlines how strongly the club value Rio Ngumoha.
