Giorgi Mamardashvili in Georgia Squad for Key Nations League Matches

Georgia have named a 26-man squad for their final UEFA Nations League fixtures of the 2026/27 campaign, and for Liverpool supporters the headline is simple, Giorgi Mamardashvili is in.

Ramaz Svanadze’s side face Hungary in Tbilisi on 14 November before meeting Ukraine in Košice three days later. There are three new faces in the group, Dinamo Batumi goalkeeper Nodar Kalichava, Polissya defender Giorgi Maisuradze and Spartak Trnava midfielder Giorgi Moistrapishvili. Fresh blood was needed, and Svanadze has brought it in without ripping up the core.

Georgia Squad Built Around Mamardashvili

Mamardashvili remains one of the central figures in this Georgia squad. He has 42 caps already, which tells you plenty about his standing despite still being only 26. Since his debut against Bulgaria in September 2021, he has moved quickly from promising goalkeeper to one of the first names on the teamsheet.

That status was cemented at Euro 2024. His 21 group-stage saves were the joint-most recorded by any goalkeeper in the tournament’s history. It was not decorative goalkeeping, it was survival-level work, done repeatedly under pressure.

He also collected Georgian Footballer of the Year in 2024, ending Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s sequence of wins. That matters, because awards can be noisy, but this one reflected his actual influence.

Liverpool Goalkeeper Waiting for Bigger Role

At club level, Mamardashvili has only made two appearances for Liverpool this season. That is a small number, but one of them mattered. In the penalty shootout win over Chelsea, he saved Emmanuel Emegha’s spot-kick after misses from Kostas Tsimikas and Valentín Barco, before Joe Gomez converted the decisive penalty.

Those moments count for goalkeepers. They build trust quickly, especially at a club where chances can be limited and scrutiny is constant.

Mamardashvili officially joined Liverpool in July 2025 after a deal with Valencia had been agreed the previous summer. He arrived after four seasons in Spain and 134 appearances for the La Liga side, bringing experience rather than theory.

Georgia know what Mamardashvili gives them, reliability, authority and saves. For Liverpool, that remains relevant too.
