Bayern Munich Ready to Revisit £58.3m Rio Ngumoha Transfer as Liverpool Face Fresh Interest

Liverpool could face renewed interest in Rio Ngumoha next summer, with Bayern Munich reportedly maintaining contact with the teenager’s representatives after exploring a £58.3 million move earlier this year.

According to Christian Falk of CF Bayern Insider, the Bundesliga champions identified Ngumoha as a serious target during their search for attacking reinforcements, with discussions taking place over a potential €70 million (£58.3 million) transfer.

Liverpool’s reluctance to entertain a departure complicated Bayern’s plans, although the German club’s admiration for the 18-year-old remains significant.

Bayern Munich Maintain Rio Ngumoha Transfer Interest

Falk revealed that Bayern were prepared to commit substantial funds to securing Ngumoha’s signature, having explored several options for their left wing.

Speaking to CF Bayern Insider, he explained:

“It is TRUE: Bayern Munich were prepared to pay €70m [£58.3m] for Rio Ngumoha. As we know, Bayern have been searching really hard for options on the left wing,”

“We talked about Bradley Barcola, whom they were in contact with, and they were also in contact with Liverpool’s young talent. There were talks, his brother talked with FC Bayern, but it was a difficult situation for Bayern Munich. It was not clear if Liverpool would sell him or not. The price wouldn’t have been extremely high.

“So, you see, the club’s decision-makers feel he’d be a great option for Bayern Munich, which is why Ngumoha is still on Bayern’s shortlist. In the end, they had to decide for Ismael Saibari. Rio would have been complicated, so they just looked to seal the comparatively easier transfer of the two. Bayern are still in talks with Ngumoha’s camp, however, and he could be an option for the summer.”

Bayern subsequently prioritised Ismael Saibari, although their continued communication with Ngumoha’s camp suggests another approach remains possible.

Andoni Iraola Offers Liverpool Advantage in Ngumoha Talks

Liverpool’s strongest argument for retaining Ngumoha centres on his development under Andoni Iraola.

Having joined from Chelsea in pursuit of first-team opportunities, the winger is already receiving meaningful exposure to senior football.

He has accumulated 628 minutes across all competitions this season, including 285 of the available 360 minutes in the Champions League.

Those figures demonstrate Iraola’s willingness to involve him in demanding fixtures while carefully managing his progression.

His deployment across different attacking positions also indicates a broader developmental strategy, potentially strengthening Liverpool’s position should Bayern return.

Liverpool Must Protect Emerging Attacking Talent

A proposed £58.3 million investment represents considerable recognition of Ngumoha’s potential, particularly given his age and limited senior experience.

Nevertheless, Liverpool have compelling reasons to resist any approach.

His technical ability, direct running and growing tactical understanding provide qualities that could become increasingly valuable within Iraola’s attacking system.

Bayern can offer Champions League football and opportunities in the Bundesliga, with Luis Diaz currently occupying a prominent role on their left flank.

However, Ngumoha’s existing pathway at Anfield gives Liverpool a credible foundation for future discussions.

The coming months could prove decisive, particularly if his involvement continues increasing.

For now, Bayern’s interest appears genuine, Liverpool’s position remains strong, and Ngumoha’s development is likely to shape any transfer discussions next summer.

Our View

From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, Bayern Munich’s reported willingness to spend £58.3 million on Rio Ngumoha should be viewed as an enormous compliment to the club’s recruitment and development strategy.

There is something particularly satisfying about seeing one of Europe’s biggest clubs identify a Liverpool teenager as a priority target.

Ngumoha possesses the kind of attacking excitement that supporters have always embraced at Anfield. His confidence in possession, willingness to challenge defenders and natural creativity make him a genuinely exciting prospect.

Crucially, Andoni Iraola appears to recognise those qualities.

The decision to provide Ngumoha with substantial Champions League minutes demonstrates considerable faith in his ability. His positional development also suggests Liverpool are preparing him for a significant long-term role.

Supporters should be encouraged by that approach.

A £58.3 million valuation is undoubtedly impressive, although Liverpool would be wise to consider his potential contribution over the next decade before entertaining any financial offers.

There is also genuine satisfaction in seeing Bayern encounter difficulties when attempting to prise away one of Liverpool’s brightest prospects.

For years, elite European clubs have competed aggressively for emerging talent. Liverpool now have an opportunity to demonstrate their own pulling power by keeping Ngumoha at Anfield.

The priority should be straightforward: continue providing meaningful opportunities, establish a clear developmental pathway and secure his long-term future.

If Iraola can unlock Ngumoha’s full potential, Liverpool supporters may eventually regard that reported £58.3 million figure as remarkably modest.
