Liverpool Weigh Bart Verbruggen Move as Brighton Goalkeeper Emerges on Transfer Radar

Liverpool are assessing the goalkeeper market ahead of a potentially important summer, with Bart Verbruggen among the names under consideration as planning continues around the future of Alisson Becker.

According to Caught Offside, the Brighton goalkeeper is attracting close attention after a strong campaign in which he has continued to enhance a growing reputation in the Premier League. The Dutch international, still only 24, is viewed by a number of leading clubs as a high-upside option with both top-flight pedigree and significant room for further development.

Bart Verbruggen on Liverpool shortlist

Liverpool’s interest appears to fit a broader piece of succession planning. Verbruggen has produced impressive numbers this season, recording 11 clean sheets in 14 appearances across all competitions, and that output has helped place him firmly on the radar of clubs operating at the top end of the market.

The sense around this situation is that Liverpool have tracked him for some time rather than reacting only to a short burst of form. That is often how recruitment decisions of this scale are shaped, with long-term monitoring, character checks and tactical suitability all carrying weight before any formal move is explored.

Alisson future creates transfer focus

What sharpens the issue is uncertainty around Alisson. The report states Liverpool are preparing for the possibility of the Brazilian leaving next summer, which naturally places greater urgency on identifying credible alternatives. When a first-choice goalkeeper enters a delicate contract position, clubs rarely leave succession work until late in the process.

Verbruggen’s profile is appealing for obvious reasons. He has experience in England, he is young enough to grow into the role, and he has shown composure at a club where goalkeepers are regularly asked to contribute in and out of possession.

Brighton goalkeeper faces elite competition

Any deal would be far from straightforward. Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are all said to be monitoring Verbruggen, underlining the level of regard for him across Europe. Liverpool may therefore need to move decisively if their interest develops into something more concrete.

At this stage, there is no suggestion of an advanced move, but the logic is easy to follow. If Liverpool are preparing for change in goal, Verbruggen looks like one of the more credible long-term options available.

Our View

This is exactly the sort of report that grabs attention because it makes sense on several levels. Verbruggen has looked assured, modern and unfazed by the pace of Premier League football. For a club thinking beyond the immediate term, he feels like a sensible name to keep high on the list.

The biggest question is whether this is genuine succession planning or simply good market awareness. Liverpool should always know who the best young goalkeepers are, especially if there is any uncertainty around a senior figure. That does not automatically mean a transfer is close, but it does suggest serious preparation behind the scenes.

There is also the Brighton factor. They are tough sellers, they know player value, and they rarely allow top talent to leave cheaply. If several heavyweight clubs are in the same conversation, the price would quickly become significant. Liverpool would need to be certain that Verbruggen is the right successor rather than one of several good options.

What stands out most is the age profile. At 24, he could arrive and own the position for years. That matters. Replacing a goalkeeper of Alisson’s stature is not about finding someone merely good enough for one season, it is about identifying the next cornerstone. Verbruggen has the look of someone who could grow into that responsibility, and that is what makes this link feel worth watching.
