Lorenzo Insigne to Liverpool - is there any substance to the rumour?
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is already looking to bolster his attacking options this summer with a big-money bid for Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne.
According to the Italian publication, La Repubblica, Insigne could be tempted by the move to Anfield as the Napoli team which so nearly won the Serie A title under Maurizio Sarri last season begins to disband.
Their midfield metronome, Jorginho, followed Sarri to Chelsea while the club’s record goalscorer, Marek Hamsik, appears to be closing in on a move to the Chinese Super League and thus ending his 12-year association with the Naples outfit.
Now might be the time for Insigne to look elsewhere for career success and the 27-year-old forward has the pace and technique to be more than just a squad player at Liverpool.
La Repubblica claims that The Reds have already made an informal offer of approximately €70 million. However, Napoli’s chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis values Insigne at closer to €150 million.
Mino Raiola is Insigne’s agent and it would certainly be in the ‘super’-agent’s interest to push through a huge move for Insigne now as he enters the prime years of his career.
Liverpool are unlikely to pay over the odds for Insigne so we could well see some interesting negotiations taking place during the summer months.
Whether Carlo Ancelotti and De Laurentiis are willing to offload such an exciting talent remains to be seen.
