Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was very happy to see such an improved performance from Naby Keita against Bournemouth on Saturday.
The former RB Leipzig midfielder had given us glimpses of just what he is capable of in the second half of Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at West Ham last Monday night. On Saturday, he picked up where he left off but stepped it up another gear against Bournemouth with the aid of a far better performance from the team as a whole.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Klopp said:
“You need a good performance. The second half against West Ham was good, the first half wasn’t that good but the second half was really good.
“If you fall into a little hole you have to make sure you get out by yourself. That’s what he did in the second half at West Ham and it was clear this game would be the next step for him.
“It was really nice to see that game and see how the people appreciate it. He is in a lot of situations, passing these little balls through a really tight midfield. It’s just good. And there’s a lot more to come. That was a good one.”
Keita had struggled to impress in the early months of his Anfield career but now seems to be intent on proving his critics wrong. If Keita continues to progress in the Liverpool jersey between now and May then he could well prove to be a vital cog in The Red machine which is hoping to power its way to a first league title success in 29 years.
