Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita both face late fitness tests to see if they can play any part against Watford tonight in the Premier League.
After Firmino limped off at Old Trafford on Sunday, it looked like we could be without the Brazilian international forward for a couple of weeks at least. However, Klopp delighted us all with the update yesterday that our number 9’s ankle injury was not as bad as first feared, while also paying tribute to Bobby’s amazing “healing powers”.
“He looks good, we were obviously lucky. It is not as serious as we thought in the first moment – if Bobby goes down and leaves the pitch it is always a bad sign because he’s a pretty hard boy.
“We play tomorrow and it will be very close for that, but there’s a big chance for the derby [on Sunday].
“Because it’s Bobby, I would say ‘yes [there is a chance for Watford]’, but I don’t know if I would use that chance because we played Sunday and then Wednesday immediately.
“Writing Bobby off is a big mistake because he recovers pretty quick.”
Discussing Keita’s condition on Tuesday, Klopp said:
“Naby was ill yesterday, unfortunately, but I’ve heard now, I got a message, that he is back for today [Tuesday]. We have to see how he is.”
From the information we have, I would bet that we won’t see Firmino start tonight. He may well be on the bench. I do think Keita will return in midfield, though.
So, off the fence I get. Here’s my predicted lineup for tonight’s fixture with Watford at Anfield.
Liverpool’s predicted lineup (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk(c), Robertson; Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Keita; Shaqiri, Salah, Mané
