Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says that his team will not be giving up on their Premier League title dream just yet, despite Manchester City’s return to the top of the table last weekend.
Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Everton left many of us Reds fans desolate as we saw our team overtaken by Pep Guardiola’s side. We watched on as Liverpool’s seven-point lead from January gradually disappeared with four draws in their last six games.
Meanwhile, Manchester City have continued to do just enough in every game during that period to get the win.
Since their late-January defeat to Newcastle, City have won five league games in a row as well as advancing in the FA Cup and bringing home the League Cup trophy. They seem to be coming back into form at just the right time.
However, Reds boss Klopp maintains that Liverpool will not be quitting any time soon.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Klopp said:
“We are positive – how couldn’t we be positive?
“There is a lot to come and a lot of games to play. What brought us here was the stability the boys showed. We are difficult to beat, which is very important in football. And we created, still, in difficult games, which is very important in football.
“Then you have to finish them off, which we did very often but not [at Everton].
“The dynamic [at the top of the table] changed a little bit – now we are second, they are first.
“The season is not over and we will not give up.”
While this will be what we have all wanted to hear this week, actions speak louder than words. If Liverpool and Klopp can show that they’re back on track against Burnley this Sunday, then the change from doubters to believers may begin to take place once again.
It may seem like a huge uphill task for Liverpool to oust Manchester City from top spot again, yet, a return to the kind of form we witnessed in December would be sure to bring us success.
Klopp and his mighty redmen still believe. So should we.
