Liverpool may have announced the departures of Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno this week but midfielder Adam Lallana insists he will not be joining them in leaving Anfield this summer.
The 31-year-old creative midfielder hasn’t played for The Reds since starting in Liverpool’s 2-1 Premier League win at Fulham back in March.
Plagued by injuries, Lallana has only started six league games in the last two seasons under Jurgen Klopp but he feels that if he can get back to full fitness he still has a lot to offer the club.
Lallana was speaking to Press Association Sport when he commented on the Champions League win and how he believes there is more to look forward to from him and this Liverpool team.
“It’s pinch yourself stuff – and more to come. A lot more to come.
“I’ve got a year left on my contract. I’ll be back, I’ll be training through the summer.”
Lallana was asked if he would be remaining at Anfield this summer and his answer was emphatic.
“Yeah. Absolutely no question about it. I couldn’t be happier here, winning Champions Leagues.
“I know my ability and I know what I can give.
“I am as eager as ever to get fit because I know when I’m fit I’ve got a lot to give and I can get in this team.”
The former Southampton star also suggested that Klopp and his backroom team are keen for Lallana to remain part of the Liverpool squad, too.
“… the gaffer and his staff and the recruitment guys have all made it clear they know I have a big part to play with what’s to come next, so I’m buzzing with that.
“No question my future is here and I can’t wait for what’s next.”
This revelation may come as a surprise to many Liverpool fans who had presumed Lallana would be one of the players heading for the Anfield exit door this summer. However, it’s worth remembering just how pivotal the midfielder was to Klopp’s pressing system in the manager’s first 12 months at the club.
If Lallana can remain fully fit for a prolonged period next season then he can be a valuable squad player for The Reds as they do battle in several competitions during the 2019/20 campaign.
