Liverpool’s veteran midfielder James Milner is expected to be back in action and available for selection when The Reds face Norwich City at Anfield on Friday night.
Milner was ruled out of Sunday’s Community Shield encounter with Manchester City – an enthralling game which Jurgen Klopp’s side was very unlucky to lose on penalties.
The club’s vice-captain and number 7 missed out on the season’s curtain-raiser against his former club due to a minor muscle injury.
In Klopp’s post-match press conference, he was asked if Milner would feature against Norwich on Friday.
“I would say yes.
“It was a minor muscle injury. I would say he can probably train tomorrow, although I am not 100 per cent sure.
“For today it did not work out, but I think by at least Tuesday he can train.”
Milner’s experience, drive and composure have been invaluable to Klopp’s young Liverpool side as it has evolved into a group which looks like it will regularly push for honours over the coming years.
Whether Milner gets many starts this season is debatable as the 33-year-old has seven other players competing with him for the three midfield spots. However, his fitness and availability are hugely important for Liverpool so he can at least be an option from the bench if necessary.
