Liverpool’s Curtis Jones is happy with the “great experience” he picked up as part of The Reds’ FA Cup squad in this year’s competition.
Jurgen Klopp’s side exited the tournament last Tuesday night, losing 2-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. However, Jones and the other youngsters did manage to pass Everton and Shrewsbury Town on their way to the fifth round.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after the Chelsea loss, Jones said:
“It was a great experience for the likes of me and Neco. It was against a great Chelsea side and I thought we battled right until the end.
“I thought we started well but it wasn’t the result that we wanted, and on a personal note I’m devastated to not have had the best performance and not going through to the next round.”
Jones scored in both of the previous rounds for Liverpool with the highlight being his fantastic winning strike in the Merseyside derby at Anfield. The promising midfielder went on to express his gratitude to Jurgen Klopp for the opportunities afforded to him in this season’s competition.
“I just want to say a massive thank you and I’m honoured really.
“I think for a young lad at such a big club it’s not always easy getting game time as much as you’d like or in the games that you would like, but the gaffer has shown great belief in myself and the rest of the young lads and hopefully I’ve paid him back in a great way and look forward to a few more along the way.”
Whether Jones will be involved in any more first-team action this season remains to be seen but the future certainly looks bright for Liverpool’s number 48.
