Mbappé to sign new PSG contract amid transfer rumours - but insists on 'gentleman's agreement' to be included
PSG star Kylian Mbappé looks set to sign a contract extension with the French Ligue 1 champions as long as there is a specific ‘gentleman’s agreement’ included.
As reported in the Mirror, release clauses are actually illegal in French football contracts so Mbappé has asked for an arrangement where he would still be able to leave should the right club come looking for him.
Mbappé’s current deal expires in 2022 so PSG will be hopeful of extending this to 2024 or 2025. However, Mbappé wants to maintain a certain amount of control over his future despite the French ruling against release clauses.
Both Liverpool and Real Madrid are rumoured to be interested in signing the young France international in the near future.
Still only 21, Mbappé has been setting the football world alight since bursting onto the scene during AS Monaco’s exhilarating Champions League run in the 2016/17 campaign.
While his price tag would be extortionate and out of sync with how Liverpool have done business under FSG, it has been claimed that The Reds could use funds from a potential sale of Sadio Mané to Real Madrid.
Not many Liverpool fans would be happy with the sale of Mané, one of the team’s most-improved players over the last two years. Yet, if the move was to pave the way for the arrival of Kylian Mbappé, that would go a long, long way to softening the blow.
