Liverpool star confirms he wants to spend rest of his career at Anfield

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has said he would like to “retire at Liverpool” while winning some more silverware in the meantime.

Robertson was signed by the club in the summer of 2017 for a bargain price of around £8 million. The left-back was brought in from relegated side Hull City and has gone from strength-to-strength in the three years since.

Robertson has established himself as Liverpool’s first-choice left-back while also going on to be given the Scotland captaincy thanks to his character and consistency.

Speaking on BT Sport, Robertson was asked if he’d like to play club football in Scotland again at any stage.

“My ideal situation just now is to retire at Liverpool.

“It’s going to be quite hard but I would love to be able to finish my career here. If I can keep my standards as high up to a James Milner type of age, I would be quite happy with that and call it a day then.”

Robertson did go on to reiterate his love for both Celtic and Dundee United but confirmed that his “ideal situation” would be to see out his playing days on Merseyside.

“I’d always said I would love to pull on the Celtic top to play; I obviously played for Dundee United, which I loved. Look, you never say never.

“You’re a long time retired, as they say, and I want to play as long as I can. If that’s finishing up in Scotland or at one point going up to Scotland, I’d be open to it. But my ideal situation is probably finishing and hopefully a couple more trophies at Liverpool.”

With yesterday’s announcements from the Premier League that competitive action is to return in June, it should now only be a matter of weeks before Robertson and co get their hands on the much-coveted Premier League trophy.

Liverpool are just two wins, or six points, from securing the club’s 19th league title success.
