Brescia’s 20-year-old midfielder Sandro Tonali has been receiving praise from the highest of places this week.

The young Serie A star – previously dubbed ‘the next Andrea Pirlo’ – has attracted the attention of the great man himself, Andrea Pirlo!

Tonali has played 23 of Brescia’s 26 Serie A games this season. Even though Le Rondinelle find themselves rooted to the bottom of Italian football’s top division, Tonali has been developing into a fine midfielder and never looks out of place, even at such a young age.

Speaking on a live-streamed interview for Gazzetta dello Sport, when asked about Tonali, Pirlo said:

“He is very good but he is different from me on the pitch.

“He has everything to be a champion but he is more a midfielder for a two-man midfield.

“He could already play for a great team; he is the best in this league.”

Tonali has reportedly attracted interest from Liverpool and Manchester United in the Premier League while some of the bigger clubs in Italy will surely also have him on their radars.

The Italy international is about to enter the last year of his current deal at Brescia, however, there is an option to extend the contract for a further 12 months.

Whatever Tonali decides to do, he looks certain to have a big future in the game. Whether some of those years will be spent at Anfield or not remains to be seen.
