Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is reported to have stepped up the club’s interest in FC Bayern midfielder Thiago Alcântara after apparently initiating contact with the Bundesliga champions.
Former Barcelona midfielder, Thiago, is rumoured to be interested in joining Klopp’s Liverpool team during this transfer window.
The Spain international is now in the last year of his Bayern Munich contract so will be able to leave for free in the summer of 2021. Therefore, FC Bayern have made it clear they will not stand in Thiago’s way if he wants to leave in the next month. The fee the German giants are looking for is claimed to be around £30 million.
Now, according to German publication Bild, Liverpool have made official contact with FC Bayern with the hopes of reaching an agreement on a price for the classy midfielder.
Generally speaking, if Liverpool open talks with a club about a potential signing, the player may already have been sounded out as to his feelings on a move, meaning personal terms will not be an issue once the two clubs can come to a deal.
Thiago’s situation will, of course, have attracted the attention of many top European clubs. Pep Guardiola has managed Thiago at Barcelona and then brought him to FC Bayern. Manchester City’s name was first mentioned in the Thiago transfer saga this week. That may well have prompted Liverpool to get things moving on their end if indeed they have made contact with Bayern Munich as Bild reports.
