Liverpool continued their preparations for their trip to top-of-the-table Everton in the early game this coming Saturday.
Jürgen Klopp and his coaching staff were able to work closely with several senior members of the first-team squad who are not away on international duty.
Some good news is that Thiago Alcântara, Joël Matip and Sadio Mané all returned to training after being unavailable for the last few weeks (Thiago and Mané had COVID-19 while Matip was injured).
Mohamed Salah and veteran James Milner were also in attendance as Klopp prepares his team to face Everton this weekend. Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals lead the Premier League with four wins from their opening four games.
The Reds will certainly need to be at their best at a ground where seven of their last eight visits have ended in a stalemate. The three most recent Everton vs Liverpool meetings at Goodison Park all finished 0-0.
With Matip back and close to full fitness, Klopp may opt to rest Joe Gomez who had a torrid night in the 7-2 defeat at Villa Park last time out.
Mané is also likely to come straight back in, replacing Diogo Jota, having missed the drubbing at Aston Villa.
Jordan Henderson is also fit and available for Liverpool. Klopp will have some decisions to make regarding Liverpool’s midfield seeing as he probably has Fabinho, Thiago, Henderson and Wijnaldum all vying for a starting place.
Naby Keïta’s condition is unclear after mixed reports about his initial COVID-19 diagnosis from earlier this week. It now appears that may have been a ‘false positive’ result like Xherdan Shaqiri’s test the week before.
