Will this be Liverpool's starting lineup against Ajax tonight?
Liverpool begin their Champions League campaign tonight away to Ajax. Let’s have a look at the likely starting lineup Jürgen Klopp may go with.
By now, all Reds fans are aware that we are likely to be without Virgil van Dijk for the rest of the season. Currently, Liverpool are also missing Alisson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Both are progressing in their rehabilitation but are still a few weeks away from full fitness.
Neither Thiago Alcântara nor Joël Matip travelled to Amsterdam this week. Both players could feature this weekend against Sheffield United, however.
Adrián will continue in goals for Liverpool against Ajax. Let’s hope he can perform to a decent standard until Alisson’s return.
With both Van Dijk and Matip out, Fabinho and Joe Gomez will likely be the pairing at central defence. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson should start at right and left-back respectively.
In midfield, expect to see Jordan Henderson dropped back to the ‘6’ role. I think Gini Wijnaldum and Naby Keïta will also start.
Liverpool should be at full strength in attack with Mohamed Salah on the right, Roberto Firmino through the middle and Sadio Mané on the left.
Predicted Liverpool lineup (4-3-3) vs Ajax – Adrián; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Fabinho, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Keïta; Salah, Firmino, Mané
