Liverpool’s Joël Matip could be fit to face Spurs on Wednesday night according to Jürgen Klopp.
Matip was replaced by Takumi Minamino at half-time in The Reds’ 1-1 draw in London against Fulham. That left Liverpool with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho pairing up in central defence as Klopp’s injury woes continued.
Mohamed Salah scored a late equaliser from the spot for Liverpool, cancelling out Bobby Cordova-Reid’s impressive first-half strike for Fulham.
Alarm bells were raised for Reds fans everywhere when centre-half Matip didn’t come back out after the half-time break. This is a cause for concern for Klopp and Liverpool with their top-of-the-table clash against Spurs fast approaching this Wednesday night.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Klopp said of Matip’s injury:
“Joel Matip has a spasm in his back. We will see. In the moment, nothing else.
“He got already treatment, will get treatment and we will see. I think there’s a chance for Wednesday. [It’s not that bad] in the moment, no.”
We’ve grown accustomed to expecting the worst in terms of injuries this season as Liverpool fans. Earlier on Sunday, we had been treated to the news that Diogo Jota will miss approximately six to eight weeks with a knee injury.
Thankfully, it appears the Matip news could be mainly positive as Klopp and his squad begin preparations for their clash with Jose Mourinho’s side at Anfield in midweek.
