Liverpool’s Nat Phillips recovered from a shaky start to play a huge part in The Reds’ 4-2 win at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
Phillips was unable to prevent Bruno Fernandes speculative attempt from going in after just 10 minutes. However, the centre-back reacted brilliantly to that nervy start to set up Diogo Jota’s equaliser. Roberto Firmino scored two goals – one on either side of half-time – to put Liverpool 3-1 ahead. Marcus Rashford replied for United only for Mohamed Salah to seal the deal with a 90th-minute finish for Jürgen Klopp’s side.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Phillips said:
“It was a rollercoaster, it was a strange game and it took a lot from us, a lot of hard work.
“It was an ugly match but we had to make it that way again to make sure that we got the result. It’s another step in the right direction.
“We’ve got another three games to go but it was a big night for us.”
The win leaves Liverpool four points behind Chelsea and six behind Leicester. The Reds have a game in hand on both teams and have three matches left in total. It’s certainly not over yet in terms of Champions League qualification.
