Real Madrid appear to be on the brink of securing a deal for Jude Bellingham, as Liverpool withdraw from the pursuit, partly due to Los Blancos’ keen interest in the young star.
Spanish publication Marca suggests that the current UEFA Champions League titleholders are in the latter stages of sealing the England international’s signature. It is believed that Liverpool’s exit from the race is a result of Real Madrid’s enthusiasm for Bellingham.
The report further indicates that Bellingham is set to ink a contract with Madrid that will last until 2029. In addition, Carlo Ancelotti’s team is anticipated to part with a sum between €100m (£88m) and €120m (£106m) for the Borussia Dortmund sensation. This would make the erstwhile Liverpool target the priciest English player ever.

This development is undoubtedly a bitter pill for Liverpool to swallow. Even after bowing out of the Bellingham chase, the Merseyside club seemed to harbour hopes of potentially securing a deal in 2024 if the midfielder stayed in Germany. However, it now appears all but certain that the gifted teenager will ply his trade in Madrid come summer.
For a considerable part of the past 12 months, Bellingham looked destined for Liverpool, with the Reds ticking all the boxes for the England international on nearly every level. Alas, Liverpool’s overall form and potential absence from UEFA Champions League football have rendered the Dortmund prodigy unattainable, leaving Madrid to reap the rewards.
As one of the most remarkable talents in global football and with his career still in its infancy, there’s no limit to what Bellingham could achieve with the world’s most illustrious club. This is a prospect that will undoubtedly leave Liverpool ruing their missed opportunity and lamenting their misfortune.
