Sporting Lisbon’s Ugarte Set to Depart, but Destination Remains Uncertain
Introduction: The agent of Liverpool FC’s midfield target Manuel Ugarte has revealed that the talented 22-year-old is bound to leave Sporting Lisbon this summer, with numerous offers on the table from clubs across Europe. Liverpool’s interest in the Uruguay international has been well-documented, but it appears they are not the only ones vying for his signature.
The young midfielder has made 45 appearances for Sporting Lisbon this season, with his standout performances catching the eye of potential suitors from across the continent. Liverpool FC are understood to be one of the clubs highly impressed by Ugarte, but their pursuit may not be straightforward.
Agent Comments on Speculation
Jorge Chijane, Ugarte’s agent, spoke to O Jogo about the mounting speculation surrounding his client’s future, stating, “Liverpool? There is a lot of talk, but it is not the only club, there are others.” Chijane confirmed the numerous offers on the table and the strong likelihood of Ugarte’s departure, adding, “It’s almost certain that he won’t stay, it’s sure he’ll leave. I believe that in 15 days the situation will be resolved.”
While Liverpool has reportedly made ‘initial contact’ over a move for Ugarte, they may face competition from the likes of Newcastle and Tottenham. The Reds’ need for midfield reinforcements has become increasingly apparent as the current campaign has progressed, with the team suffering from a lack of goals and assists from that area.
Jurgen Klopp’s side had been strongly linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham, but reports suggest that Real Madrid are confident they will secure the 19-year-old’s services this summer, having already agreed to terms with the player. Another name that has emerged in connection with Liverpool is Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister, although the Seagulls have not yet received any contact from the Merseyside club.
Ugarte Could Be the Answer to Liverpool’s Midfield Woes
With other targets potentially slipping away, Manuel Ugarte could be the ideal candidate for Jurgen Klopp’s side as they seek to bolster their midfield and improve upon a disappointing campaign. While the competition for his signature is fierce, securing the talented Sporting Lisbon midfielder would be a significant coup for Liverpool FC.
