Liverpool FC in Advanced Discussions for Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch

Liverpool FC are reportedly keen on strengthening its midfield line with a notable summer signing – Ryan Gravenberch, currently playing for Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Gravenberch’s Journey in Bayern Munich

The Dutch midfielder signed a deal with Bayern Munich last summer, moving from Ajax for a reported £21 million. However, his inaugural season in the German top-tier league was characterised by limited opportunities, as senior players Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka occupied the starting line-up positions. Gravenberch made 32 appearances in all competitions, but only five of these were starts.

In response to Gravenberch’s situation, Bayern president Herbert Hainer told Bild, “In my opinion, he is an incredibly talented player. That’s why we brought him. He got more playing time towards the end of the season. I’m sure he’ll get more playing time in the future.”

However, the recent acquisition of Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig could potentially complicate the young player’s quest for more game time. Gravenberch has indicated that decisions about his future will be made following his return from the Under-21 European Championships in early July.

The Liverpool Connection

According to Colin Mirror of The Mirror, Liverpool FC’s interest in acquiring Gravenberch is at an advanced stage. The Merseyside club appear prepared to support Jurgen Klopp’s desire to add the 21-year-old Dutchman to his squad.

The midfielder’s own comments suggest a readiness for a move if it would guarantee more playing time. Gravenberch stated in an interview with De Telegraaf:

“I just want to play more, preferably at Bayern Munich. And otherwise at a club where I play 100 percent. That is my preference. Because I don’t want to have another year like the one I’ve had now.”

Rival Interest from Manchester United

Despite Liverpool’s advanced interest, Manchester United are also known to have Gravenberch on their radar. United’s coach Erik ten Hag, who previously worked with the midfielder at Ajax and oversaw his development, is reportedly keen on a reunion.

However, the young player had already pledged his allegiance to Bayern Munich when approached by Ten Hag last summer.

A Fresh Start for Liverpool

Liverpool’s reported pursuit of Gravenberch comes in the wake of the club’s decision to abandon their chase for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham. Following a challenging season in the Premier League, the Reds are poised to make significant signings this summer to revamp their squad.

The club have already acquired Alexis MacAllister from Brighton, and more arrivals are expected, especially in midfield. Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s departures open the door for new talents to make their mark at Anfield.

If discussions proceed positively, Gravenberch could join Liverpool FC with a weekly contract matching his current salary at Bayern Munich – approximately £200,000. All eyes will be on the developments after the Under-21 European Championship concludes in early July.
