Virgil Van Dijk’s Commitment to the Netherlands Through 2026

Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk, aged 33, has committed to continue playing for the national team up to and including the 2026 World Cup, as confirmed by head coach Ronald Koeman. The Liverpool centre-back, a mainstay in the Dutch squad, will extend his international career following productive discussions with Koeman.

“I thought it was so important to go to him to see if he wanted to continue at the highest level for another two years,” Koeman noted about the defender. “This is what he wants, and it is what I want too. He is a good captain, but he admitted he did not reach the level you would expect from him as a player at the European Championship.”
