Michael Owen: ‘It’s Too Early’ to Question ‘Incredible’ Arne Slot

After lifting the Premier League trophy last season, the 25/26 campaign has been bitterly disappointing. Liverpool currently sit 4th in the table and despite going on a 10-game unbeaten run, performances have frustrated supporters.

Whilst sitting in the Champions League qualification spots may not seem like a crisis, already falling 14 points behind league-leaders Arsenal is far from ideal.

With that being said, last night’s 0-0 draw with the Gunners was a solid result on paper considering the squad at Arne Slot’s disposal.

Former Liverpool forward Michael Owen, speaking to Anfield Index, shared his thoughts on the pressure surrounding Slot…

‘Too Early’ to Question Slot

After spending £450m on new players in the summer, expectations were high heading into the season. When those expectations aren’t anywhere near being met, pressure will rightly point towards the manager.

However, Owen believes it’s too early for such conversations.

“I personally think that it’s too early to be talking about his future,” began Owen, “In his first year he went and won the league. I mean, its unheard of.”

“He did quite an incredible job, actually,” said Owen, “And I actually think that he has done a very good job in terms of what the club have in terms of the signings.”

“I think Isak is an incredible player and Ekitike is amazing. Wirtz is pure class and Frimpong is decent,” continued Owen, “I didn’t think any of these were bad signings and I’m sure long-term they’ll be very good. This is just a period of time where some are struggling, I guess.”

Liverpool’s Top Four Hopes

With the Reds sitting in fourth place, they’re facing a battle with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea to secure Champions League football next season.

“I would say Liverpool will for sure make it,” said Owen.

Perhaps Liverpool could put together a strong run in Europe in the second half of the season or push towards a potential FA Cup triumph. Who knows? There’s still a lot of football to be played.
