Liverpool’s latest Anfield Road expansion was completed in April 2025, taking the stadium’s capacity to 61,276 and bringing one of the most significant redevelopment projects in the club’s modern history to a close.
The expansion added around 7,000 seats to the Anfield Road Stand, but Liverpool supporters are already asking whether the club could go even further. With demand for tickets continuing to vastly outstrip supply, but there are currently no confirmed plans for another major Anfield stadium expansion.
Liverpool’s recent success has also seen the club attract plenty of interest on brand new betting sites, with the Reds regularly among the most popular teams to back in the Premier League.
How Many Times Has FSG Expanded Anfield?
FSG has overseen two major expansions of Anfield since taking ownership of Liverpool in 2010.
The first was the Main Stand redevelopment, which was completed in 2016 and added around 8,500 seats, taking Anfield’s capacity to approximately 54,000. The second was the Anfield Road Stand project, which ultimately added around 7,000 more seats.
The Anfield Road Stand was the more complicated of the two projects. Construction delays meant the expansion took longer than originally expected, but the completed redevelopment has taken Anfield beyond the 61,000 mark.
Together, the two projects have increased Anfield’s capacity by around 15,500 seats under FSG, while allowing Liverpool to remain at their historic home.
Why Is There Still Such Huge Demand For Anfield Tickets?
The latest expansion has not come close to eliminating the demand for tickets.
Liverpool’s season-ticket waiting list is currently closed to new applications, with the club saying there are no current plans to reopen it. Supporters already on the list can still check their position, but reports have suggested that those at the back could face waits of around three decades before being offered a season ticket.
That gives some idea of the scale of the demand for Anfield tickets. Even after the Main Stand and Anfield Road Stand expansions, there are still far more supporters wanting regular access to the stadium than there are season tickets available.
It also explains why the possibility of another Anfield Road expansion continues to attract interest, even though the current project is already complete.
Will Liverpool Expand Anfield Again?
For now, there is no indication that Liverpool are preparing to begin another major stadium redevelopment.
The club has already increased Anfield’s capacity significantly under FSG, while further expansion would be more complicated. The Kop and Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand are surrounded by existing infrastructure and residential areas, leaving fewer straightforward opportunities to add thousands of seats.
That does not mean further improvements to Anfield are impossible, but another project on the scale of the Main Stand or Anfield Road Stand would require significant planning, investment and potentially difficult decisions about the surrounding area.
For now, Liverpool appear to be focused on making the most of a 61,276-capacity Anfield rather than immediately pursuing another expansion.
The Anfield Road Expansion Has Probably Finished – For Now
The Anfield Road expansion has completed FSG’s second major Anfield redevelopment project and helped transform the stadium since the American ownership group took over in 2010.
With the Main Stand redevelopment adding around 8,500 seats and the Anfield Road Stand adding another 7,000, the stadium has grown by around 15,500 seats under FSG.
The demand for tickets means another expansion will always be an attractive idea for Liverpool supporters. However, with no current plans for another major redevelopment, the latest Anfield
