January Sales Shopping: Konrad Laimer v Youri Tielemans

Famous sayings can be true but also work against each other. Everybody loves a bargain, but at the same time, you do get what you pay for. Liverpool’s midfield needs are great and many hands make light work. The January window is notorious for the challenges that it brings, which means Julian Ward and co will have their work cut out. For all the top names linked, FSG seem unlikely to let the purse strings be loosened too much so …

Liverpool midfielder nominated for Champions League Player of the Week award

Liverpool's Fabinho is one of four players nominated for the Champions League Player of the Week award after his performance in The Reds' win over RB Leipzig. Fabinho was in inspired form as he returned to his more natural defensive-midfield role, guarding the young centre-back pairing of Nat Phillips and Ozan Kabak. Thiago Alcântara was also allowed to roam further forward with Fabinho providing cover at the base of midfield. The Brazil international's presence alone had such a positive effect …

Ozan Kabak: Harshly criticised and under-praised

LIVERPOOL ARE BACK! Well, they've won another game, at least. The Reds were excellent in their 2-0 win over RB Leipzig, as they were in the first leg and in a smattering of recent away matches. For all this incomprehensibly bad home form at Anfield, which is now bordering on laughable, Jurgen Klopp's men haven't completely lost their mojo. Wednesday's victory in Budapest was further proof that Liverpool's season isn't dead and buried, with more glory in Istanbul the one …

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané were the scorers, as they were in the first leg back in February. However, it was Fabinho's performance in front of the inexperienced centre-back pairing of Nat Phillips …

Tonight's fixture is technically Liverpool's 'home' leg but, due to COVID-enforced travel restrictions between the UK and Germany, both games had to be played at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary. The Reds won the first-leg 2-0 thanks to second-half goals from Mohamed Salah and …

Tactical Breakdown: RB Leipzig 0-2 Liverpool

Liverpool won 2-0 in their round of 16 away tie against RB Leipzig to make them favourites to progress to the quarter-finals. In some ways, Julian Nagelsmann's side was a welcome opponent, with their expansive, aggressive and calculated-risk based play. Leipzig offered a very different tactical proposition to the majority of Liverpool's recent opponents, with a high press, two forwards, a single pivot and back three almost all rare in their own respects in the Premier League. Systems When in …
