Player Ratings as Liverpool crush the Cityzens

That was unbelievable. Far and away Liverpool’s best display under Klopp. We’ve attacked better, yet scored three. There hasn’t been a better defensive display under the German.

One foot into the semi-finals, surely? Score one at their place and they have to score five. Not rocket science is it, lads?

Anyway, here’s me on player ratings trying not to give everyone a 10.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, build him a statue

Loris Karius (7): One of the easiest night’s of his life but did everything he had to well. Gets bumped up one because it finished 3-0.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (10): My first 10 of the Champions League campaign, for a performance befitting of it. City sent the ball towards Leroy Sane every time he got the ball, and I can’t recall Trent losing a one vs one. Sane had 80 touches, doubt one of them involved him marauding last the teenager in red. Adding to that, TAA positioned himself beautifully to stop David Silva without actually having to touch him. Mature beyond his years.

Dejan Lovren (9): His best game for Liverpool, maybe? I’d say so. Nothing rash, assured in the tackle and puts his head in for everything which is always to be admired. Seems to come alive just as everyone’s at their most nervous about him.

Virgil Van Dijk (9): Should be barred from the Melwood gym, he’s so strong people just bounce off him. Headed away about a trillion corners, calmness personified on the ball.

Andy Robertson (8): Didn’t have as much to do as he may have expected given how TAA was targeted but did that all well. Made Sterling look silly with the tackle of the game.

fOX outside the box

Jordan Henderson (8): Really good defensively. Went in at the right time, intercepted well and was always on hand to mop up when the press was beaten. Bumped down one for a rash late challenge that sees him miss the second leg.

James Milner (8): Mad how he’s just going peak Zidane at the exact moment we need him to. Solid going backwards, good enough on the counter although he smart let the fast lads do most of it. Big fan of how snide he is, leaves his foot in constantly but never enough to get a booking.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (9): He loading up on PED’s before we play City or something? Best two performances for Liverpool, both made by a beautiful strike from distance. This latest one was ridiculous, I’m convinced Ederson loses an arm if he even tries to save it. 100mph.

Girls don’t like boys, they like cars and Mane

Sadio Mane (8): Pretty crazy that he scored a beautiful header and I want to rave about his defensive display. Whichever side he was on, he was back making himself a nuisance to whichever full-back was getting forward. I just love him, he’s such a smiley guy. Glad he wasn’t injured after scoring.

Mohamed Salah (8): What else is there to say about the guy? A well-taken goal, shows he can do both with that sensational ball for Mane’s header. Wrap his groin in cotton wool. Get him in the oxygen chamber. Whatever.

Roberto Firmino (8): Quieter than you might have expected going forward given it ended 3-0, but stunning work to poach the ball back and set Salah up for the first. Didn’t give Fernandinho an inch to get City going forward from deep.

Subs

Georginio Wijnaldum (6): Didn’t do much but helped the defensive collective and made no mistakes, all he had to do.

Dominic Solanke (5): See Wijnaldum

Alberto Moreno (N/A): See Solanke
