Dominik Szoboszlai names Cristiano Ronaldo as dream teammate at Liverpool

Dominik Szoboszlai is gaining influence at Liverpool. Under Andoni Iraola, he has moved into the club’s updated leadership group, which tells you plenty about how he is viewed inside the dressing room.

That should not surprise anyone. He has captained Hungary since 2022, he is vocal, and he carries himself like someone comfortable with responsibility. Szoboszlai picks Cristiano Ronaldo

When asked by JD Sports which player, past or present, he would most like to play alongside, Szoboszlai gave a simple answer, “Cristiano Ronaldo I would love to play with him,” he answered, when asked for the one player, past or present, who he would most like to share a pitch with.

That is fantasy rather than transfer strategy. Ronaldo is 41, and Liverpool are not in the business of sentimental moves. Still, the answer matters because it says something about the player Szoboszlai admires most.

He made that even clearer when discussing his football hero: “My idol was Cristiano Ronaldo and still is.”

Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland praise

Szoboszlai also highlighted the standout names from his own career. “Only one? So the two most known and best players I’ve played with were Mo Salah and Erling Haaland,” he said.

It is a fair answer. One is a modern Premier League great, the other is one of the most relentless centre-forwards in Europe. They are elite references, and naming both shows the level of company Szoboszlai has kept already.

Luka Modric remains toughest test

On the hardest opponent he has faced, there was no hesitation. “The hardest opponent I would say Luka Modric,” he said. “I always say that and I won’t change.”

Again, sensible. Modric has spent years making very good midfielders look ordinary. If Szoboszlai sees him as the benchmark, that is another revealing detail.

Galatasaray atmosphere left mark

For atmosphere, Szoboszlai pointed to Galatasaray’s RAMS Park. “The best atmosphere, I would say Galatasaray. It was crazy, it was something else,” he said.

So the picture is clear. Szoboszlai is stepping into a bigger Liverpool role, speaking with authority and showing the personality Iraola wants in his core group. Ronaldo may remain a dream teammate, but influence at Anfield is no dream. That part is already happening.
