Liverpool are looking to boost their attacking lineup by adding two of the hottest talents on Spanish soil, Bojan Krkić and Sergio Canales.
Canales warded off any attempts to get him on loan in January, but patience is running thin.’Its been a tough year’, admits Canales. For someone who should be starting games at this age, he is waiting in the wings for his turn. With the wealth of talent in Madrid, it doesn’t look like the attacking midfielder stands a chance of replacing Kaka or Ozil in the first team. Damien Comolli, now the Director of Football at Liverpool FC, rates him highly from his days at Racing Santander.
Canales made a big impact on the Spanish league last season. Appearing in 26 league games for Racing, he bagged 6 goals and created 4 in the process. A respectable total for any midfielder in any league. What was more important was that he was the only bright light in a fading squad that season. His performances helped Racing avoid relegation.
Bojan has seen his number of league appearances, but more importantly starts, reduced from his first season. Having made 31 appearances in his first full season, he has been reduced to 23 in the last two seasons. Although his scoring has been consistent, you wonder how long he can wait for his turn. Barcelona have been reluctant to sell him because they know what the future holds for him.
Liverpool have contacted Barcelona to inquire about him but were told he is not for sale. A loan move is being prepared for a full season. If the terms are agreed by the clubs and the player himself then he could make a move this summer.
Liverpool are short of attacking options but they see defense as a more important area to cover. An attacking Left Back and an imposing Center Back is the priority. Adding depth through these young talented players can help them do that.
