Liverpool Player Ratings As They Fly Past Fulham

Bar a blistering performance that led to taking Fulham apart 9-0, that was pretty much what Liverpool needed. Much more coherent than midweek, three points and a clean sheet.

Mohamed Salah’s breakaway goal set the Reds on their way, Xherdan Shaqiri’s second-half strike completing a 2-0 win over the Cottagers.

Here are your ratings.

Alisson throws his cap on it…

Alisson (10): What a man. Comes into the Premier League with that magnificent beard, completely owns the yellow goalie kit and long black gloves combination, then just as we’ve all got used to his magnificent beauty he throws a cap in there. Black cap on for 20 minutes to cope with the sun. Minimal fuss, maximum style. His goalkeeping was sound too.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (6): Still looks like he’s trying a little too hard, but keeping him in allows Gomez to stay at centre-back and the team functions better. Fine going backwards, a mixed time at the other end that included an assist for Salah.

Virgil van Dijk (7): Coped with Mitrovic’s threat easily, shock. Looked graceful doing it, shock. Was a threat in the opposition penalty area, shock. Seemed to have forgotten that Tuesday ever happened which was promising, as I certainly hadn’t.

Joe Gomez (6): Good again from the younger man of England’s best centre-back pairing, marked down slightly for a silly yellow in the second half. Doesn’t look the biggest but deals with larger strikers with routine ease.

Andy Robertson (6): Down to a five for not getting out quickly enough for Mitrovic’s controversially disallowed goal, but redeems himself with an excellent ball in to assist Shaqiri.

Fab fine, Gini ghost?

Fabinho (6): Fulham’s attacking style saw Liverpool’s midfield a little redundant at times but I thought Fabinho was okay. Some good passes, decent challenges, kept the game ticking over well in the second-half. Needs to keep his place after the international break.

Gini Wijnaldum (6): One of them from him today where you don’t really notice he’s playing until the 70th minute. Didn’t do anything wrong to mark him down, a little meh though.

Your one season wonder is at it again…

Xherdan Shaqiri (8): Xherdan… more like xGherdan… am I right? Guys? Guys? Well, our xG seems to rocket with him on the pitch anyway. Quick, tenacious, creative. Great finish for his goal. Hard not to pick him at the moment.

Roberto Firmino (7): He’ll get criticised for a lack of goals lately but he’s played in a more withdrawn role in a few of those games and you can see why. Liverpool look much better in this system at the moment, Firmino linking things from deeper as Salah stretches the defence. A really nice combination between the two of them in the first half before Salah was denied by the ‘keeper.

Sadio Mané (6): Always offered, always tried. Just didn’t quite come for him today. Still, think we’re waiting for a game where the whole attack is on it.

Mohamed Salah (7): Played as a striker, scored from the right wing. Amongst the goals lately, another one today and he even looked dangerous in Serbia. Seems to be getting his mojo back. Takes his goal like a player full of confidence which could be huge for Liverpool going into the festive schedule.

Henderson passes to Fabinho… Liverpool Twitter collapses

Jordan Henderson (6): I don’t like seeing him in a midfield pivot but at 2-0 up against Fulham you can’t really complain. Reckon yer da and yer son’s heads were sent wobbling as him and Fabinho knocked it around to each other.

James Milner (N/A): Came on and kicked the ball around for a little while.

Naby Keita (N/A): Impressed that he managed to wrack up around 39 touches in as many seconds on the pitch.
