Liverpool’s Andy Robertson insists that The Reds’ recent dip in form is not down to nerves after Jurgen Klopp’s men stumbled to a 1-1 draw with West Ham at London Stadium on Monday night.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, the Scottish international defender called for Liverpool to focus on their own game.
“We need to get back on track by winning games and playing better football. We can’t worry about them [City and Spurs]… we’re having a wee blip and we need to just try and get over the line in a couple of games,” said Robertson.
“We keep going, we dust ourselves down, there’s still a long way to go… the run-in will be exciting but it’s time to try and enjoy it.”
The reporter then put it to Robertson that people were beginning to believe that nerves were getting the better of Liverpool after two consecutive draws with Leicester and West Ham. Liverpool’s left-back was quick to downplay that idea.
“I wouldn’t say nerves are showing. Did anyone say that when City picked up no points at Palace and Leicester? I don’t think they did. Look, it’s no different for us. A lot of people talk about pressure because we’ve not been in this position, but it’s February. I think everyone needs to relax and try to enjoy the run-in if you’re fans… I’m sure many other teams would want to be in the position that we’re in now… nerves aren’t showing in the changing room. It’s just been two poor results and poor performances. It happens during a long season.” Robertson said.
