Former Liverpool and Germany right-back Markus Babbel has revealed the three Liverpool stars who have impressed him the most this season.

Babbel, now head coach of Western Sydney Wanderers in Australia, was interviewed by Liverpoolfc.com when he spoke about the players who have really caught his eye in 2018/19.

The 2000/01 treble-winner was asked how Liverpool’s current right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold was viewed abroad. Babbel said:

“He has so much power and so much energy. Technically – for his age – he is in a different class. This is also what Jürgen Klopp is doing, he’s not only buying players. Trent is a talent from the club, he saw him and was pretty certain he was a top talent. It was the same with [Andy] Robertson; he saw the talent and didn’t bring another left-back in. Also, [Joe] Gomez. It’s fantastic to see how he is managing this. Here are talents from the club and he brings them out. It’s fantastic to see how the young guys perform.”

Babbel was on Liverpool’s books from 2000 to 2004 but his progress at the club was dealt a huge blow when he was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome late in 2001. The muscle pain and weakness illness kept Babbel out for nine months. It was a period in which the brilliant defender could barely summon the strength to walk in his own home.

Thankfully, Babbel was recovered by the summer of 2002 and is now enjoying full health again as he enjoys life in Australia since his move there in May 2018.
