Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said that he feels the criticism Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side have come under in recent weeks has been harsh as The Reds drew two league games in a row.
As reported in Goal.com, Carragher highlighted the fact that it was unrealistic of fans and the media to expect Liverpool, or Manchester City, to win all 14 of their remaining Premier League fixtures.
The Champions League-winning defender said:
“What did they think was going to happen? Liverpool were not going to win 14 straight games to the end of the season. They were going to drop points, things are going to happen, nerves are going to kick in. And that’s for everyone, not just Liverpool.
“The criticism from outside is harsh on the team and the manager. What they’ve done this season is unbelievable. To actually be up there with City, a team who had 100 points last season and who will be close to that again this time, is remarkable.
“To talk about nerves and stuff like that is unfair. They’re not going to win every game. But at this moment, Liverpool are the only team in the country that can say ‘if we win every game, we win the league’.
“There’s still time to go, but it’s not a bad place to be at this stage. And the win against Bournemouth just puts that negativity and the talk of nerves and all that to bed.”
As Carragher says, Liverpool’s win over Bournemouth will have put The Reds back in the right frame of mind ahead of their huge Champions League tie with Bayern Munich tomorrow week.
