Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was delighted with how his team played as they maintained their one-point lead at the top of the Premier League on Wednesday night.
The Reds beat Watford 5-0 at Anfield with goals from Sadio Mané (x2), Divock Origi and Virgil van Dijk (x2).
Mohamed Salah and his teammates ran The Hornets ragged on the Anfield turf, stretching Javi Gracia’s defence at every opportunity in a game where they could have hit double figures.
Speaking after the win, as reported in the Evening Standard, Klopp had high praise for his players.
“It was exactly the game we wanted. In a game where you win 5-0 and everybody performs on a really, really high level and still you have to say that both centre-halves played defensively an outstanding game and the goalkeeper had to make two outstanding saves, then you see how the quality of the opponent is.
“All the rest of the game was exceptional: the crosses were the most obvious thing because they were brilliant, but the positions in the box, heading, all the other things, the runs, the direction, the desire, it was… what can I say?
“Tomorrow is another day and we have to deal with all the things but for today that was a really fantastic football game and I’m really happy for the boys because they deserve it so much.”
Klopp also discussed what he felt had been unfair criticism aimed at his team after recent results and draws in big games.
“We draw against Bayern and against United and everybody talks about different things which I don’t really understand. It’s always about showing reactions, but not reactions on the things we talk about.
“We want to play like this every day and that’s sometimes possible and sometimes a bit less, but you have to be stable and the boys were always stable.
“Tonight we were stable and really fluent offensively, so it’s good, it’s a good example of how football should look. Now let’s try to do it again and again.”
