Liverpool welcome Burnley to Anfield for a hugely important Premier League encounter this Sunday. We take a look at the starting eleven Jurgen Klopp is likely to go with for this game.

With The Reds having slipped to a point behind Manchester City in the title race, every one of the remaining nine league games has taken on absolutely huge significance now.

Thankfully, Liverpool have nobody suspended for this weekend and the injury-list is now down to just three names – Dejan Lovren, Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

At the back, it will be business as usual for Alisson between the sticks. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson should continue in their fullback roles with Joel Matip still partnering Virgil van Dijk in the centre. Matip’s performances have improved with the benefit of a consistent starting place due to Gomez and Lovren both being injured for a long period now.

I think Klopp will revert to a 4-2-3-1 shape for the Burnley game. In this case, Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum will probably form the base of the midfield. Xherdan Shaqiri could be in for a rare start in the line of three behind the striker. Bobby Firmino will drop to his number 10 position with Sadio Mané on the left of the three.

This means Mohamed Salah will be pushed further forward and more central as the out-and-out striker.

Naby Keita will most likely get at least 30 minutes of action from the bench, too.

Predicted Liverpool lineup v Burnley (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk(c), Robertson; Fabinho, Wijnaldum; Shaqiri, Firmino, Mané; Salah

Whatever team Klopp selects, they will need to get at Burnley right from the start. Don’t give the crowd a chance to get nervous. The Reds need to play with a fast tempo from the first minute, get an early lead and then build on that.

  1. So is it supposed to be a 4-2-4 cause Liverpool fans seem to think Shaqiri is a creative midfielder which he is far from. So that lineup only works with 4-2-4
