Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will look to make it four league wins in a row when they face Southampton at St Mary’s on Friday night. We’ve had a go at predicting The Reds’ starting eleven for the game.
The big news in the aftermath of the 2-1 win 0ver Spurs was that Virgil van Dijk has been declared fit to play against his former club.
The Dutch international centre-back picked up a knock when defending that situation against Moussa Sissoko and Heung-Min Son when the score was still locked at 1-1. However, it seems that Van Dijk has had no lasting injury from the knock he picked up when colliding with Sissoko after the Spurs man had blazed his shot over Alisson’s crossbar.
There was much uproar among many Liverpool fans due to Jordan Henderson and James Milner both starting in midfield with Fabinho on the bench. The Brazilian international has become something of a fan favourite at Anfield in his short time at the club.
Klopp selected a midfield trio of Henderson, Milner and Gini Wijnaldum for the Spurs game with Fabinho only entering the fray in the 77th minute with Liverpool chasing the win.
On Friday night, I think the only decisions for Klopp to make will be regarding his midfield selection. It will be business as usual for the goalkeeper, back four and front three.
I think Fabinho will return to the starting eleven. I would like Naby Keita to come in but I don’t see it happening. So, a trio of Fabinho, Henderson and Wijnaldum is likely for this fixture.
Mohamed Salah may not have been credited with the winning goal on Sunday (rightly so, it was clearly an own goal!) but his involvement in causing the havoc that gave Liverpool all three points will hopefully have helped his confidence in front of goal.
