Sevilla defender Diego Carlos has apparently attracted the attention of Liverpool’s backroom team who view ‘The Beast’ as an ideal addition to The Reds’ squad.
The 27-year-old Brazilian centre-half could be an ideal partner to Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Liverpool defence. That is, of course, if Jürgen Klopp doesn’t feel he can place his trust in Joe Gomez’s ability to fill that role in the long-term.
Carlos signed for Sevilla last summer after impressing during his three-year stint with FC Nantes in France’s Ligue 1.
According to the Mirror, Carlos has also been linked with Real Madrid and Barcelona thanks to his excellent debut season in LaLiga with Sevilla.
Carlos’ current contract is reported to have a £61 million release clause but it’s believed it would not take a bid of such a high amount to strike a deal with Sevilla.
In terms of playing style, Diego ‘The Beast’ Carlos has been likened to Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly. Like Koulibaly, Carlos favours playing on the left side of a centre-back partnership. If he was to join Liverpool he would need to adjust to playing on the right because Van Dijk has made that left-hand spot his own.
Speaking last week, Carlos was asked about his future and any potential transfers. He said:
“If I ever leave Sevilla, it would be to go to a much bigger club, because Sevilla is already a great [club].”
Liverpool FC is one club that certainly fits that description.
