Liverpool were reported to be interested in snapping up Chelsea’s Brazilian star Willian on a free transfer this summer. However, those rumours were short-lived.

With the story seeming to gather some legs during the day on Thursday, Ian Doyle of the Liverpool Echo was quick to quash the story, saying there was no truth that Willian was a Liverpool target.

Willian was initially pursued by The Reds in 2013, during Brendan Rodgers’ tenure at the club. The attacking maestro opted to sign for Chelsea that year and has gone on to win two Premier League titles, an FA Cup medal, a League Cup medal and a Europa League medal.

Willian’s Chelsea contract expires this summer and it was reported that Jürgen Klopp and his backroom team were considering a move for him. Yet, judging by Doyle’s tweet, it looks like those rumours never had any real substance to them.
