Football should soon return from its current state of paralysis and Liverpool will be given the opportunity to finally wrap-up their first Premier League title.
The Reds currently sit a staggering 25 points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table having lost just one of their 29 league games so it’s just a matter of when, not if, Liverpool secure the title and end their 30-year drought.
Liverpool are already 5/6 favourites with the bookmakers to retain the title next year while many betting tips for the 2020/21 season also back the Reds to see-off the threat of Man City once again.
The Anfield giants have been so dominant it’s no wonder many feel they have the potential to go unbeaten and match Arsenal’s feat of 2003/04. A shock 3-0 loss at Watford ended those hopes this season but Jurgen Klopp will already be looking at how he can improve his squad this summer to turn Liverpool into ‘invincibles’.
Here are three positions Klopp should strengthen this summer:
Left-back
Andrew Robertson has developed into one of the best left-backs in world football but Liverpool are hugely reliant on the Scottish international. There is no recognised senior back-up in the squad with versatile midfielder James Milner the go-to guy to fill-in when needed. Youngsters like Adam Lewis and Yasser Larouci have potential but Klopp needs an experienced alternative to support Robertson at left-back as an injury to the former Hull City star would be catastrophic.
Midfielder
Klopp has plenty of options in midfield but Adam Lallana is expected to depart this summer when his contract expires and James Milner is coming towards the end of his career. Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum will both turn 30 in the coming months and Naby Keita is yet to hit the heights we saw during his days at RB Leipzig so Liverpool could do with another versatile midfielder in their ranks. Some fans feel the club need a creative attacking midfielder to help unlock stubborn defences but other believe competition for Fabinho in the defensive midfield department is required.
Striker
There is no doubt Liverpool have one of the best front three’s in world football as Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino have formed a devastating attack over the past few years so it’s going to be difficult to improve upon them. However, Divock Origi is the only senior back-up striker for Firmino and while the Belgian has chipped in with some vital goals, Klopp still needs to bring in a top-class frontman this summer.
RB Leipzig hitman Timo Werner has been strongly linked with a move to Anfield and the German international would be an excellent signing if Liverpool could get a deal agreed. The addition of Werner along with a left-back and midfielder would bolster Klopp’s squad and could be the difference to make Liverpool ‘invincible’ next season.
