Liverpool are reported to be interested in bringing Arsenal’s young star Bukayo Saka to Anfield this summer as a backup to Andy Robertson.
As reported in the Daily Mail, Jürgen Klopp and the Liverpool scouting department have been keeping close tabs on the 18-year-old. The Reds are well aware that Saka will soon enter the last year of his current £5000-per-week deal.
The article goes on to claim that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is desperate to keep Saka at the club. However, apparently his current contract extension talks have stalled and that has attracted Liverpool’s attention.
A move for a young attacking left-back like Saka would, theoretically, make sense for Klopp and co. There is not much strength-in-depth for The Reds on the left with midfielder James Milner normally filling in for Andy Robertson when required.
One other option for Klopp at left-back is Yasser Larouci, the 19-year-old Algerian who is already at the club. Larouci did impress somewhat during last summer’s pre-season friendlies and again during the team’s FA Cup run this season. Knowing Klopp’s love of promoting from within and using the youth talent currently available, Larouci may well have a bright future at the club yet.
