Reds set to raid relegated Norwich for talented left-back

Liverpool are apparently in discussions with recently-relegated Norwich City about the possibility of bringing young defender Jamal Lewis to Anfield.

According to Melissa Reddy’s piece in The Telegraph, Jürgen Klopp and co see Lewis, 22, as an ideal addition to The Reds’ squad. Lewis would initially be a back-up for the current left-back, Scotland captain Andy Robertson.

Lewis can also play on the left of midfield and is a player who obviously possesses fantastic potential, especially if given the opportunity to develop at Liverpool under Klopp and his backroom team.

The article states that Liverpool have already begun negotiations with Norwich following The Canaries’ relegation from the Premier League.

Reddy writes:

The Premier League champions are willing to pay around £10m to bolster that area of the squad, but are not the only club to show interest in Lewis following the relegation of Daniel Farke’s side.

The Merseysiders are, however, understood to be most advanced in negotiations at present.

The 22-year-old is represented by PLG, who also manage Robertson and fellow Anfield fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold, giving Liverpool an advantage in negotiations.

Reddy, who is always a good source for inside information relating to LFC, continued her report, stating:

An added benefit is the defender’s homegrown status, which makes him more valuable in the context of the Brexit changes that will be enforced.

Lewis won’t be short of offers though and may plump for greater game time elsewhere if it still serves his long-term advancement.

He flew home from Mykonos over the weekend to be in prime condition for a transfer – whether that is to Anfield or another top-flight club.

Liverpool are understood to have a shortlist of four candidates for the position, which also features Olympiakos’ Kostas Tsimikas.

Jamal Lewis was one of the few shining lights from Norwich’s tough season in the Premier League. At such a low cost, the defender would be a low-risk signing and someone who matches the typical profile of an FSG target for The Reds.
