Liverpool start their 2020/21 Premier League campaign this Saturday evening against Leeds United. We’ve had a look at what starting lineup Jürgen Klopp may go with.
The Reds will begin the defence of their league title – or their attack on this season’s title, as Klopp likes to consider it – by welcoming Marcelo Bielsa’s newly-promoted Leeds side to Anfield.
Liverpool come into this game in generally good shape. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee injury) and Kostas Tsimikas (COVID-19) are the only two players who are expected to be unavailable for The Reds this weekend.
Jordan Henderson hasn’t had any minutes pre-season but he is back in full training so could surprise us all with a start, especially considering how the whole Gini Wijnaldum contract situation remains ongoing. I think Klopp will opt for Naby Keïta in midfield with Henderson and Fabinho.
Trent Alexander-Arnold played 86 minutes for England in Denmark on Tuesday night. He should be fine to start on Saturday. The rest of the back four is likely to consist of Andy Robertson on the left with Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk forming the central-defensive partnership.
Alisson is injury-free and ready to start this season as are the front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané.
I’d expect neither Alexander-Arnold nor Henderson to play the full 90 minutes this weekend as they continue on the road to full fitness.
Predicted Liverpool lineup (4-3-3) vs Leeds United: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Keïta; Salah, Firmino, Mané
