After a busy few days for the club, let’s take a look at all the latest Liverpool FC news as The Reds made it six points from six at Chelsea on Sunday.
Jota signed
Liverpool confirmed the signing of Portugal international Diogo Jota on Saturday afternoon. The former Wolves forward left Molineux after three seasons at the club. Jota scored 16 goals in 67 Premier League appearances for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team since helping them to promotion from the Championship.
Jota will wear Liverpool’s number 20 which was vacated by the outgoing Adam Lallana earlier this summer.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after his move was completed, Jota could not hide his delight at signing for The Reds:
“It’s just a really exciting moment for me and my family.
“All of my path since I was a kid and now, to join a club like Liverpool – the world champions – is just unbelievable. I just want to get started.
“It is one of the best teams in the world – the best at the moment because they are world champions. When you look at the Premier League, you always see Liverpool as one of the biggest teams in the country, so it’s impossible to say no.”
Jota could make his debut in Liverpool’s EFL Cup tie at Lincoln City later this week.
Thiago shines as Reds dominate Chelsea
Liverpool won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening making it two wins from two to start off the Premier League campaign. Sadio Mané scored both goals for The Reds in a game they controlled right from the off.
A defensive Chelsea set-up couldn’t prevent Mané breaking through on goal late in the first half, only for Andreas Christensen to bring him down and be given a straight red card. Once Frank Lampard’s side was down to ten men, there was no way back for the Londoners.
Thiago came on at half-time to make his Liverpool debut after Jordan Henderson picked up a slight knock. The midfield maestro simply ran the show, completing more passes (75) in a half than any Chelsea player managed in the entire game.
Lincoln City fixture details confirmed
Liverpool’s Carabao Cup third-round clash with League One side Lincoln City will be played this Thursday night, September 24th, at the LNER Stadium. Kick-off is at 19:45.
The draw for the fourth round of the tournament has also taken place. If Liverpool do progress past Lincoln City, they will host either Leicester City or Arsenal next. The fourth round is due to take place in the week beginning September 28th.
