Thiago tests positive for COVID-19
Liverpool new-boy Thiago Alcântara has tested positive for COVID-19, the club confirmed on Tuesday evening. The 29-year-old Spain international midfielder is reported to have exhibited minor symptoms of the virus. He is now self-isolating as per the necessary guidelines.
It’s hoped that Thiago will be fit and available for action again after the upcoming international break.
Reds prepare for second Arsenal meeting of the week
On Thursday night, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team returns to Anfield after their 3-1 Premier League defeat on Monday night. This time, the competition is the Carabao Cup with a place in the quarter-finals for the winner.
Last season, the sides played out an incredible 5-5 draw in the same tournament before Liverpool won on penalties.
Kick-off is at 19:45 on Thursday at Anfield.
Champions League draw this week
Liverpool will find out their Champions League opponents for this season’s group stage when the draw takes place on Thursday afternoon.
The Reds will be drawn from pot one. Liverpool could play any of the following teams from pot two – Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax.
Pots three and four are yet to be decided due to the unplayed qualifiers that still have to take place this week.
The Champions League group stage gets underway in the week commencing October 20th with the sixth and final matchday taking place in the week beginning December 8th.
