Chelsea 0 – 0 Liverpool – PL Player Ratings
Alisson Becker – 7.0
The player of the year and perhaps the only reason we are not sat in the bottom half of the league. Made some brilliant early stops, as the home team consistently broke free. He was key in making himself a huge obstacle for Chelsea and allowed the reds to stay in the game.
Joe Gomez – 5.0
A rare start at right back for the England international. Seemed at ease going forward, perhaps too much so, as he left Matip too exposed in the first half. His pace at least allowed him to track back in the second half, offering a little more assurance.
Kostas Tsimikas – 4.0
Back in for the out of sorts Robbo. Was unsure positionally, as the game drifted from end to end. Could not impact at either end and showed why a more dependable left sided defender is sought.
Subbed – 65 mins
Ibrahima Konaté – 7.0
Perhaps the most important defensive piece right now. He threw himself into some early interceptions and tackles, as the rest of the back line ambled along. Was the rock amongst pebbles and at least gave his all.
Joel Matip – 3.0
With Virgil out with illness, the Cameroonian came back into the starting line-up. Looked far too relaxed as the Chelsea front line set upon him from the off. Mistakes and poor positioning summed up his game.
Jordan Henderson – 3.0
Another start for the underperforming skipper. Was caught wandering around too often, as the Chelsea midfield was far too quick and crisp in their early play. Did very little to inspire his team as the blues ran the middle ground.
Fabinho – 5.0
Maintained as the holding midfielder. He struggled to get to the man or ball, as the speed of Chelsea’s counters often bypassed him. Was lucky not to receive a second yellow was he seemed late into most challenges.
Curtis Jones – 3.0
A rare start for the talented England under-21 international. Was caught out of position at times and unsure whether to pass or drive with the ball, as the team looked so unfamiliar in the first half. Showed moments of endeavour yet little substance. Needs minutes.
Subbed – 79 mins
Diogo Jota – 3.0
With form and goal scoring still unfound, he at least had another chance to impress. He could not do anything positive and should become a player we look to move on, with suitors willing to pay a significant fee.
Darwin Nunez – 5.0
The Raging Bull came back to add power to the attack. The odd burst aside, he looked like an individual within a foreign attack. Struggling on the left wing and needs to take up a central position within a more structured forward line.
Subbed – 79 mins
Roberto Firmino- 4.0
His last domestic game against Chelsea, certainly as a red. Some fairly good moments on the ball couldn’t hide the fact he can no longer bring the energy he once had.
Subbed – 65 mins
Subs;
Andy Robertson – 4.0 (on 65)
Struggling.
Mohamed Salah – 4.0 (on 65)
Could not impact the game at all.
James Milner – 4.0 (on 79)
Tried at least.
Cody Gakpo – 3.0 (on 79)
Could do little with his time on the pitch.
The Manager;
Jürgen Klopp – 3.0
Rang the changes, after that disappointing showing at the Etihad.
His team was second best in most departments, with very little change to a structure that simply is not working. The team was lucky to get out of this with a point and must again look to Alisson for keeping them in the game.
The subs did nothing to alter the trajectory of the game, and keeping both Henderson & Jota on the pitch must mean they come out against Arsenal, surely.
Pre-match Prediction;
Chelsea 2 – 3 Liverpool
