Liverpool’s interest in Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister is reportedly intensifying, with the Merseyside club set to “step up” their efforts to secure the talented midfielder, whose departure this summer is deemed “100 percent” certain.
The Argentine has long been associated with a move to Anfield, and just this week, esteemed Times journalist Paul Joyce revealed Mac Allister to be “high on the list” of Liverpool’s targets.
This comes as Liverpool prepare for an exodus of midfielders, with James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Arthur all set to leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts.
In April, the Brighton star’s father and representative, Carlos Mac Allister, indicated that his son was likely to be “playing for another team” next season, following the initiation of “talks in general.”
Now, both the Guardian and the Mail suggest that Liverpool are making strides in their pursuit of the 24-year-old.
According to Fabrizio Romano, writing for the Guardian, the Reds have submitted “details of their financial proposal and project” to Mac Allister. Though no deal has been agreed upon at present, Jack Gaughan and Dominic Hogan of the Mail paint Liverpool as the “front-runners” in the race for the Argentine’s signature.
These journalists even posit that Mac Allister’s current team-mates believe he is “destined for Anfield.”
“Sources at the Amex Stadium claimed that the squad have openly discussed the prospect of Mac Allister sealing a switch to Liverpool in the coming months,” the article reveals.
Romano, meanwhile, has used Twitter to assert that the chances of Mac Allister leaving Brighton this summer are “100 percent” and that it will happen “early.”

A transfer from the south coast is anticipated to occur in May or June, aligning perfectly with Jurgen Klopp’s desire for swift signings with the Reds’ manager keen to integrate any new recruits quickly, so as to avoid a repeat of last summer’s disarray which contributed to a disjointed and exhausting campaign.
Mac Allister has found the back of the net 10 times and provided two assists in 33 appearances for Brighton this season. He also played a pivotal role in Argentina’s triumphant World Cup campaign in December, starting all but one match.
The midfielder signed for Brighton from Argentinos Juniors in 2019 for a fee believed to be in the region of £7 million. Now, the Seagulls are reportedly seeking a cool £70 million for their star player.
