Liverpool have found themselves back in the pursuit of Napoli’s central midfielder, Piotr Zielinski, as the summer transfer window approaches.
The Reds had previously set their sights on the Polish international in 2016, but Jurgen Klopp ultimately decided to bring Gini Wijnaldum from Newcastle United to Anfield instead.
Nevertheless, the rumours surrounding Liverpool’s interest in Zielinski have persisted over the years, and with his contract set to expire in 2024, it seems the Merseyside club may be ready to reignite their interest, as per recent reports.
Since joining Napoli from Udinese in 2016, the 28-year-old has made a noteworthy impact on the Serie A champions, registering 324 appearances and finding the back of the net 47 times.
Polish website Meczyki.pl has shed light on the Reds’ intentions, stating: “Liverpool are interested once again in Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski. The Reds are VERY serious and his contract ends in 2024 – with extension talks very difficult at the moment and a summer departure likely.”
Liverpool are set to bolster their midfield ranks in the upcoming transfer window, and aside from Zielinski, the club has reportedly identified Alexis Mac Allister and Mason Mount as priority targets.
