Liverpool FC – 2024/25 Predictions

With the first game of Liverpool’s upcoming season set to avail itself at Portman Road on Saturday lunchtime, now comes the moment to predict how far the new Head Coach, Arne Slot, can take this historic football club on his first campaign at the helm. The opportunity to further transition this side away from his predecessor, Jürgen Klopp, has been undertaken with a very different style of play in the summer pre-season. A more measured possession-based approach will be favoured, as the rock n roll patterns of play join the reds German manager in departing Anfield.

Ultimately, this heavyweight team must look at a top three finish as a bare minimum. I am still confident that a Premier League Championship can be secured, though my optimism potentially outweighs my rationale. With that and my belief in the new regime, here are some of my own thoughts and predictions for the long campaign ahead, with other notable adversaries listed where needed.

Premier League Table Prediction

1 – Liverpool FC

2 – Manchester City

3 – Arsenal

4 – Tottenham Hotspur

5 – Aston Villa

6 – Newcastle United

7 – Manchester United

8 – West Ham

9 – Chelsea

10 – Brentford

11 – Brighton

12 – Bournemouth

13 – Crystal Palace

14 – Fulham

15 – Ipswich Town

16 – Everton

17 – Nottingham Forest

18 – Wolves

19 – Southampton

20 – Leicester City

From the above, Chelsea stand out as the team that should do better, however, their sporadic endeavours and unproven top flight manager does not make for a successful season ahead. Manchester United will do what they have being doing for years, as Arsenal once again fails to deliver major silverware. I trust the process at Anfield and with two smart signings at defensive midfield and left back (LCB), I believe a charge could be undertaken that ends with Virgil lifting the most coveted domestic prize. The Premier League is set to drag reigning champions, Manchester City, into the courtroom in a move that could alter the trajectory of the English top tier forever. Such outside noise will only distract Pep Guardiola and his sports washing enterprise, allowing the Merseyside giants to swoop in and take their crown.

Or so I believe.

Premier League Top Scorers

1 – Erling Haaland + 30 Goals

2 – Mohamed Salah + 25 Goals

3 – Dominic Solanke + 20 goals

4 – Ollie Watkins + 20 goals

5 – Cole Palmer + 20 goals

I was tempted to pin Mohamed Salah to the top of this listing, though his transition from pure predator to goal scoring creator may well see him fall short. I believe the total goal contributions by the Egyptian King will be soar beyond the forty mark, which could make the difference in a tight race for glory.

Liverpool Top Scorer (All Comps)

1 – Mohamed Salah +30 goals

2 – Darwin Núñez +20 goals

3 – Diogo Jota +20 goals

4 – Dominik Szoboszlai +15 goals

5 – Cody Gakpo +15 goals

The patterns of play are being designed to lower the XG on chances created, thus allowing more production from those in the final third. The plethora of riches in red will be able to overwhelm opponents, whereas to kill with passes will bring Dominik Szoboszlai heavily into the goal scoring reckoning.

Player of the Season – Top 5 (LFC)

1 – Mohamed Salah

2 – Virgil van Dijk

3 – Trent Alexander Arnold

4 – Alexis Mac Allister

5 – Dominik Szoboszlai

The system utilised by Klopp over the past few years has not harnessed the best of the record breaking wide forward, Mohamed Salah, which is something I can see rectified in the coming era. A burning desire to be recognized as the world’s best player will see the 32-year-old end the campaign as the player of the season.

Player Of The Season – Top 5 (PL)

1 – Mohamed Salah

2 – Virgil van Dijk

3 – Rodri

4 – Trent Alexander Arnold

5 – Declan Rice

Simply put; to overcome the odds and finish above both Manchester City and Arsenal, Liverpool will need their elite assets performing to a level that propels them into the discussion for team of the year. The names above are extraordinary talents that will all enjoy fruitful seasons. A certain world class number eleven will produce a brilliance that will not be matched.

Liverpool’s Breakout Star

Trey Nyoni

This remarkable young talent will at some point enjoy a run in the first team, one that has been glimpsed to great effect in preseason. As a holding midfielder that brings both skill and intelligence far beyond his tender 17-years, the England under-18 international may well prove the reason why a move for Tottenham’s new signing, Archie Gray, was not followed up upon.

Domestic Cup Success?

Early Exits

To conserve the legs of senior players during the EFL and FA Cup matches, would be a smart endeavour undertaken by the coaching team. These competitions should be about getting minutes into the fringe players and blooding the likes of Trey Nyoni and other young starlets.

Champions League Success?

Semi Finals

The last four of the most important club competition in world football, is when Liverpool’s participation will end. Decisions will have to be made by Arne Slot, as his reds chase down the Premier League crown.

Overall Verdict?

A brilliant start to the tenure of Arne Slot.
